A sophisticated wine experience curated for selective tasters

Focusing on one of Italy’s most prized wines – ‘Brunello di Montalcino’ – this is the perfect tour for lovers of wine, delicious cuisine and stunning vistas.

On this 1-day wine tour from Florence (or surrounds), visit two wineries to see how one of Italy’s most loved wines is produced and also includes time dedicated to enjoying a stroll around the remarkable village town of Montalcino.

This Brunello winery tour also includes a visit to the hauntingly beautiful Benedictine Abbey of Sant’Antimo, not far from Montalcino.

With Italy’s wines having been developed throughout the centuries to pair perfectly with the local cuisine, we would be happy to offer some great dining suggestions, either at one of the wineries or in Montalcino itself.

There is no better way to experience the best of Tuscany, with its greatest wine, delectable gastronomic delights, spectacular views, one of its most charming villages and stunning Abbey in one spectacular 10-hour exploration.

This private wine tour may depart from either Florence or surrounds, and even from Siena upon request, with Montalcino being located just 1.5 hours from Florence and around 45 minutes from Siena.

Produced in the stately wine area surrounding the picturesque town of Montalcino, today there are some 200 boutique wineries creating one of Italy’s most important reds.

Brunello di Montacino is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, whose roots go back at least to the 1500s, with many arguing that its ancestors date back right through to Roman times. Its name derives from ‘bruno’ (meaning brown in Italian) in reference to its orange-tinged hue that fades with aging.

One of Italy’s most prestigious wines, in 1980 the Brunello di Montacino obtained the first ever DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) appellation.

Brunello di Montalcino pairs perfectly with the local cuisine, particularly the richer traditional flavors of Tuscany such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak) or Cinghiale (wild boar) dishes.

Perched above a hill at an elevation of 1850 feet above sea level, Montalcino is framed by the most stunning panorama. Its ancient medieval walls encase a fortress dating back to 1361, an ancient basilica, 13th century churches and convents, and museums housing collections featuring a full gamut of artworks spanning from historic to modern times.
